Alan Whitehead MP for Southampton Test and Shadow Minister for Energy and the Green New Deal, visited our modular factory, based in Winchester, earlier this month following initial discussions with Make UK Modular – the UK’s modular housing trade body.

Dr Whitehead was keen to learn about more sustainable methods of construction and understand exactly why modular homes are critical to adding to the housebuilding capacity in the UK, by the fact they can deliver green homes quickly at a time of chronic skills shortages, rising costs and spiralling rents in all sectors.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Whitehead to their innovative and sustainable modular building manufacturing facility, where he was able to hear and see for himself the quality housing product they offer that will help aid Make UK Modulars mission to build ‘Greener, Better, Faster homes. Offsite Construction, with government backing, will be key in solving the countries current housing crisis.

Shadow Energy Minister, Dr Alan Whitehead MP, said:

“If we are to get anywhere near our housebuilding targets for the future, modular house building will play a large role. It was really interesting to see how far modular housing has come and the modular units that are being built in Micheldever – both for student and for general housing – seeing first-hand how they combine serious robustness with high quality finish all done in factory site and installed in attractively designed buildings. Stelling Properties really do seem to have cracked modular builds at very affordable prices from which the sector could learn a lot.”

Stelling Properties COO, Dan Smith, said:

“It was a real pleasure to welcome Dr Alan Whitehead to Stelling and to take him through our journey and vision as well as the physical builds within the factory. With our focus on a long term, sustainable business model, we have the passion and drive to bring this industry into a right first time, high quality and low waste series of products. Our approach sees an evolvement of non-trade specific skills across all our people delivering buildings that weather cannot delay and significantly reduces site dust, noise, deliveries and unused and damaged materials.”
